WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
As a tax-exempt, artist-endowed foundation (AEF), the Sam Francis Foundation’s assets are earmarked for use in furthering charitable and educational activities serving a public benefit. We realize the requirements for our tax status through a number of different programs and artistic heritage stewardship highlighting the creative vision of the arts and the role of the artist in the community. One major focus at this time is the ongoing publication of the Sam Francis: Online Catalogue Raisonné Project.
The initial endowment provided by the artist at the time of his death in 1994 has been the basis of the operating budget for over 25 years. Without a revenue source to replenish this endowment, we are reaching out to the Francis community to provide additional financial support. Gifts from donors can be in the form of cash contributions [link to donation denominations below], art donations, securities, inheritance, or property. Our goal is to augment the endowment with funds so we can continue documenting Francis’s history as part of the modern art historical canon, archiving his oeuvre (includes artworks, writings, correspondence, photographs, etc.), and continuing educational artists’ support programs with other nonprofit entities.
As we look forward to celebrating Francis’s 100th birthday in 2023 we hope you will continue to be supportive of the foundation’s mission. A gift to the foundation will insure that our efforts can continue into the future. You will notice when logging onto the Sam Francis: Online Catalogue Raisonné Project that we are expanding the artwork entries to include limited edition prints, monotypes, ephemera, and sculpture. In addition, we will be publishing updated data from previous compilations including Connie Lembark’s The Prints of Sam Francis: A Catalogue Raisonné, 1960–1990 (1992, Hudson Hills), Pontus Hultén and Garner Tullis’s The Monotypes of Sam Francis (1994, Daco-Verlag), and Burchett-Lere’s Sam Francis: Catalogue Raisonné of Canvas and Panel Paintings, 1946–1994 (2011, UC Press).
All levels of support are welcome! Please consider the foundation when making your plans for tax-deductible charitable donations each year. We look forward to welcoming you to our generous group of supporters.
